The workshop aims at a re-evaluation of what has been achieved when it comes to the Catholic discussion on human dignity in terms of its grounding and implications and what challenges lay ahead. The discussion during the workshop will, hopefully, cast light on issues such as whether the context in which the discourse on human dignity takes place has radically shifted and, if so, what are the implications of such a shift; whether it is appropriate to discuss some issues that the contemporary Church faces (ordination of women, homosexuality, sexual abuse, etc.) within the bounds of the discourse on human dignity and human rights; whether the notion of human dignity is truly of fundamental importance for the Church teaching/practice and Catholic theology and what exactly does this mean.
